Fellow citizens, I come to you today as a concerned user of the road just like you all. I have
been doing research on a plague that has been growing in this country. Driving fatalities in
this country have been on the rise, may affect countless Americans and their families and
there has to be a way to curb how many people die in car accidents every year. With more
people on the roads now than ever we need to find a way to make our driving habits safer.
America could not afford to lose its citizens to such avoidable deaths.
How to curb these deaths you might ask well you can't expect people to not drive because
that's how Americans get from place to place and as we know public transport is not well
developed so we need to think about how we can make driving safer. How many people have
had a loved one get into a wreck on their way home late and woken up to their loved one in
the hospital or worse. If they were drinking the chances that they would have walked away
from that accident are much higher. First responders say “Drunk people are a collision and
come away with fewer and more minor injuries than their sober counterparts. They’re also
more likely to than other trauma patients. It seems counterintuitive given that being drunk
was what probably caused the accident in the first place.” (KBG Injury Law LLP) With
statistics like these from trusted first responders how can we not pick up a flask or a beer
before we get into the car relaxing our muscles so that we know if something bad happens
to us we will be safe.
There are also various testimonies that drinking does not actually affect driving
performance. Field sobriety tests given by police officers take you out of the car and test
your skills not driving therefore they give no significant data on how alcohol affects a
person's driving. Given all this information I cannot sit quietly anymore and must do my part
to not only make drunk driving legal but promote the action so that our roads may be safer.
I myself have taken driving courses in which there is a class meant to deter the public from
drunk driving by giving you goggles that blur your vision and then they give you the earlier
mentioned field sobriety test. The class does not achieve the intended results as I and many
others completed the test without issue. Also, being a consumer of alcohol as well I can tell
you the goggles give no accurate representation whatsoever of having a few beverages. It is
simply a poorly executed scare tactic pushed onto teens learning to drive by an evil system
hell bent on keeping people down.
On top of the safety increase drunk driving will bring to the roads of America, but it will also
boost the economy. After the pandemic restaurants and bars suffered the hardest hit. Some
were not able to recover financially. I’m sure we all have at least one place we loved to go
that no longer exists because of covid. If Americans were encouraged to drive drunk, they
could all stop at their favorite bar on the way home from work and support their local
businesses. Small businesses are the backbone of this country and it’s the duty of every
American to support their local business. How many disadvantaged people have been able to
make a decent living through running a restaurant or bar and made the American dream.
Driving drunk helps support that American dream.
The good about legalizing drunk driving doesn’t stop there either. Think of how many people
have lost a promising career to DUI. How many lawyers and doctors got locked away and
expelled from school all because they were doing something completely harmless and were
subject to a corrupt and greedy system. Legalizing drunk driving would allow so many more
bright young minds who just need to be free and explore themselves in their tentative years
to succeed creating a more diverse and efficient world for the betterment of all society.
There is no possible way in which the legalization of drunk driving will not benefit every man
woman and child on this planet. We must do something and therefore I am proposing for our
local and state representatives to bring a bill forward at the federal level that will
decriminalize drunk driving for good in this nation. No longer will Americans have to fear
from police hunting them down for an innocent act. The reduction in anxiety from every
driver on the road knowing that they are free from oppression will also decrease the number
of accidents as many people be more relaxed when they're on the road and less focused on
their thoughts inside their head giving them more time to pay attention on what's in front of
them and just driving. The system has tricked us long enough for everyone's good. I beg of
you please, support my plea to our legislature.
